The Team
Erik Myhren
Founder/President/Board Member
Erik leads all strategic planning and development efforts at KNUW SEEDS. He is an elementary school teacher in the Denver Public School System (currently at Hallett Elementary) and has served in this capacity for over ten years. He is also a coach (youth basketball, soccer and lacrosse), community volunteer and a youth mentor. He has been awarded numerous honors over the years, including the 2004 Denver Nuggets Teacher of the Year, the 2005 Denver Parks and Recreation Coach of the Year, and the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus of Kent Denver School. Erik was also recently named as a recipient of the Channel 7 “Everyday Hero” Award for his work in providing after school activities in the arts, music and athletics for underprivileged elementary school students in Denver schools.
From his vantage point as a teacher, Erik saw that with budget reductions and a strong focus on improving academic performance, there were fewer and fewer youth development programs offered during the school day. Starting in the late 1990’s Erik began creating opportunities for kids in the Denver Public School System to participate in enrichment programs on afternoons/evenings and on weekends. These activities resulted in the creation of numerous new community activities, including the Park Hill Lady Cheetah soccer program and the Denver City Lax lacrosse program. Eric is a tireless proponent of youth development efforts and the driving force behind the creation of KNUW SEEDS.
Erik received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Southern California and a Masters Degree in Urban Education from the University of Denver.
